Time to buy Dell? Nope!

Dell shares tumbled 6 percent following the weak results announced today. Steve Felice, president of Dell's small and medium business claimed Windows 7 will have some positive effects on overall PC demand, but the larger effect will come from the older base.

It's a fact the many businesses did not migrate to Microsoft's Vista for couple of reasons. First of ...

Time to Buy United Airlines?

Let me start with a disclosure: I do personally own United Airlines stocks.

This is no secret that the prices of airline stocks are tied to the price of oil. Oil price has peeked to $146 a barrel in July which I believe mostly due to speculation. If you think about it, all fundamentals are against oil right now.

The demand is decreasing as with ...

Time to Buy Starbucks?

Economic slowdown has hit the Starbucks hard as many people expected. At the end, $5 latte was the easiest thing to cut when people are in financial trouble. Company lost half of its market value since last year and the stock is now hovering its 2003 levels. It closed at $14.42 on Friday.

Now the question is whether the stock is a good buy at these levels? ...

What about direct investments???

I am new here - but this site is really exciting -- a friend just invited me and I love the concept.  Am I missing something -- or is something is missing??  There are no Direct Participation Programs -- or DPP's.  I think people are with into bonds and stocks -- or they are more active players doing real estate, gas and oil, creating or investing ...

The shares of search giant Google dropped 9.8 percent on Friday, the day after it announced its second quarter results. This was the fourth quarter Google missed the expectations since its initial public offer. Why are the commodity prices going through the roof?

The prices of precious metals, grains, corn, and other commodities have dramatically risen over past few months. Many people blame "irrational" investors that are just creating another "bubble". This probably holds true for durable materials, such as gold.  After all, the price of gold is just following supply and demand laws. Because ...

Investing in a Down Economy, Part II

I will continue talking about investing in a down economy. I decided to make this like a mini series. My suggestion to most people are, before doing anything with your money follow this three step process:

Divide your money into buckets: now bucket: money that you spent on a regular basis, short term bucket: money to be spent within next 1 to 5 years, ...

Investing in a Down Economy

If somebody asked me when is a good time to invest, my first answer would be when there is a bunch of bargain priced stocks available. And yes, now is that time. Look around. Go to the Stocks page and see the profitable and growing companies with P/E ratios of around 5. When have you ever seen good companies with their stocks at these low P/E levels?

I ...

Time to buy DELL?

Dell's new executive management is doing everything in their power to keep the company financially sound while trying not to lay off any of their staff. That is something I really respect for their effort. Instead of announcing a lay-off and having a percentage of their employees unemployed in a tougher market, they are asking their employees to take unpaid time-off.

Laying ...

The Numbers Are In - Foreclosures Are Up

As expected, the foreclosure rate was up 21% in September, according to RealtyTrac. Year over year, the foreclosures are up 71%. No surprises here, I guess. Other interesting information for California residents is that, we account for 1/3 of the nationwide foreclosures. Good news is that the rate of foreclosures slowed down from August to September.

September 29 2008 - What a Day!!!

The stock market went down like crazy today. I could not imagine our generation would see a depression-like market fluctuation. The Nasdaq was down almost 10%!!!

I cannot believe The House couldn't pass the legislation. What do they think they are doing? No wonder the Senate has the lowest approval times of all times.

I hope the lawmakers will finally make ...

Dell is back

It is good to be a Dell stock holder today. It is good to see Michael Dell taking charge and bringing back the Dell from the downturn that she took after Michael Dell left for a short period of time. It was a vice decision on the board's part to actually bring back Michael Dell the former number 1 PC manufacturer.

Dell launched a variety of products today: Hybrid ...

The fine line of being a good reporter and invading another person's privacy and making false accusations is crossed one more time. This time it is Joe Nocera, one of the New York Times' writers. Oil Prices Up and Down

A few days ago, the President symbolically lifted the ban for offshore oil drilling. Now, the Senate moved forward with the energy speculation bill. As we speak, oil prices have been declining.

The short answer is "It depends." In order to answer this question better, let's group the type of owners of houses in US and explain how and why owning a house is an investment or not.

Contrary to the reports by the lazy news media, mortgage rates are just about unchanged, about 5.75 percent for the lowest-fee 30-year paper.

Surveys showed that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage had an average interest rate of 5.48 percent with 0.4 point during the week compared to an average of 5.69 percent with 0.5 point a week earlier. One year ago the ...

Who is to benefit from Hillary's Foreclosure Freeze?

Hillary Clinton promises to deliver a 3 year freeze on foreclosures.

On the surface, that appears a very noble thing to do, as she is saving some people from finding themselves "on the street". However, let's consider what that freeze would mean in more detail.

Government cannot dictate a corporation what to do, unless you live in a communist state. ...
